HAPPY HALLOWEEN

I have already decided a few weeks ago that , for the first time in my life, I will take part in the nonsense of Halloween this year. For the correct deco we definitely need a scare pumpkin which, according to legend, the evil spirits are kept away from the house. Pumpkins can be found everywhere: at the grocery store, the gardener or at the weekly market. We got our pumpkins from a farmer. We went with two pumpkins in different sizes, which will then light up in front of our house. I have looked up different pumpkin faces on the internet. You find everything - the classics to artwork. We opted for the classic. So choose a pumpkin the right size for your motive. AND THIS IS HOW I DID IT: With a sharp sharp knife cut along a prefigured line at the top and then detach the cover. Watch out sometimes the knife gets stuck. Then the fibers and seeds must be removed. At first I did it only by hand  which is pretty disgusting. So we decided to go with a  spoon (an ice cream scoop works well too). Extract the fibers with a spoon. This part of the pumpkin has landed in our BIO-waste. Now scrape  the pulp for later use in the kitchen into a bowl.Hollow the Inside of the pumpkin until you can shine a flashlight through the shell. Wipe off the pumpkin and use a pen to transfer your motive on it. There are also templates on the Internet. You can also purchase special tools. I chose the budget way by using a carpet and craft knife. Done.

WORTH NOTING: Unfortunately, the pumpkin dries out quickly and starts to get moldy. To prevent this or at least postpone,  following find a trick. Cover the edges from cutting and the inside of the pumpkin with vaseline. For best results distribute it with a little paper towel. If the pumpkin is a little dried out already, put it for a few hours or overnight in a bucket of water. Then drain it for 30 minutes - and voilà: it's like new again. To let the pumpkin glow all night long one can use glow sticks or put tea light in an empty pickle jar. I'm looking forward to  October 31 st, when our pumpkins  will glow for the children. And  little ghosts and witches will ask for trick or treat. If you have no idea what to do it with the pulp, my dear husband Thomas came up with a recipe.

CREAM OF PUMPKIN SOUP WITH PUMPKIN CRISPS

INGREDIENTS:
1 small piece of butter // pumpkin pulp // 1 l bouillon // a few dashes of red wine // cinnamon // nutmeg // salt and pepper // 2 tablespoons olive oil // 2 tablespoons honey // some pumpkin seed oil  //  2 tablespoons brown sugar // 1/8 l cream

And there you go:

Begin to melt the butter over medium heat in a large skillet. Then place the larger scraped pieces of pulp on baking paper, sparingly pour some olive oil over the pieces , add some salt and pepper and slide it at 180 degrees in the oven. These pieces are tasty as a snack and a perfect liner for the soup. The rest of the pulp goes in the pan and is roasted and caramelized with honey and brown sugar. To deglaze add a little red wine, using broth. Then eventually decant into a casserole, to minimize the splattering using a hand blender. Season it with salt, pepper, cinnamon (a little), nutmeg (even less) and pumpkin seed oil to meet your taste. Serve with a dash of cream and  add the chips and a herbal leaf - Bon Appettit !
